Path is a personal journaling and reflection app designed for private use. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices you have.
Because Path is built around personal reflection, the content you choose to provide may include sensitive information about your health, relationships, location history, goals, beliefs, family, work, and daily life.
In this policy, Path, we, us, and our refer to Path, the operator of the Path app and related services, which is based in California, United States.
If you write about your physical or mental health in Path, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy describes how that information is handled and is available in the app alongside this policy.
If our data practices change, we will update this policy and the effective date.
Account and sign-in information, such as your name, email address, authentication provider, provider account identifiers, account creation date, and session tokens.
Onboarding and profile information, including answers about your age, gender, childhood and current location, family, education, work, social life, relationships, health, hobbies, goals, and final reflections.
Journal, chat, and reflection content, including messages you write, generated journal entries, entry dates, summaries, insights, monthly and yearly recaps, future paths, origin stories, life archetypes, life-state notes, memory chunks, and related generated text.
Voice input when you choose to record it. Path sends the audio file for transcription and uses the resulting transcript in chat and journaling features. Path does not save raw voice recordings to your Path account, though audio may be temporarily stored on your device or by service providers during processing.
Friend feature information, such as invite links, invite share and redemption status, friendships, compatibility scores that have actually been computed, compatibility history, refresh credits, and the display information needed to show friend rows.
Technical and operational information needed to run the app, such as device time zone, authentication tokens stored on your device, app and server errors, generation status, job locks, and storage paths for generated journal cover images.
We collect information directly from you when you create an account, answer onboarding questions, journal, chat, record voice input, contact us, or use friend features.
We receive sign-in information from Apple or Google when you choose those sign-in methods.
We generate information from your use of Path, such as summaries, insights, recaps, memory chunks, compatibility scores, cover images, and technical records needed to operate the service.
We may receive limited information from service providers, such as authentication, storage, server, AI processing, support, or debugging providers.
To create and maintain your account, authenticate you, sync your data, and let you delete your account.
To provide journaling, chat, voice transcription, summaries, insights, recaps, future predictions, life archetypes, life-state memory, generated cover images, friend invites, and friend compatibility features.
To personalize Path based on your entries and onboarding answers.
To keep the service reliable, debug issues, prevent abuse, protect accounts, and respond to support requests.
We use sensitive journal, chat, onboarding, relationship, location-history, and health-adjacent content only for the Path features you request, personalization inside Path, service operations, security, support, legal compliance, and other purposes described in this policy.
Path does not sell your sensitive personal information, consumer health data, journal content, or chat content. Path also does not use that content for third-party advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising.
Path does not currently request precise GPS location. We collect location information only when you choose to provide it in onboarding, journal entries, chat messages, or similar free-form content.
Path is not a healthcare provider, medical record system, therapy provider, or crisis service. Please do not use Path for information that must be handled as a medical record or for emergencies.
Some information you provide may be considered consumer health data under certain privacy laws, especially if you write about physical health, mental health, sleep, diet, fitness, symptoms, treatment, disability, pregnancy, sex life, sexual orientation, or related wellness topics.
Path may create summaries, insights, memories, recaps, predictions, or other inferences from that information to provide the journaling and reflection features you request.
We use and share consumer health data only to provide and personalize Path, operate and secure the service, respond to your requests, comply with law, or otherwise as described in this policy.
We do not sell consumer health data. We also do not share consumer health data for advertising or with data brokers.
Path uses AI service providers, including OpenAI, to generate chat replies, journal entries, summaries, insights, future paths, recaps, origin stories, life archetypes, life-state memory, cover images, voice transcripts, and friend compatibility scores.
When those features run, the relevant prompts, transcripts, journal content, onboarding answers, friend context, and generated outputs may be sent to Path servers and our AI providers for processing.
Path does not use your journal, chat, or onboarding content to train public AI models. AI providers may process and retain inputs, outputs, and related metadata under their own service terms, data-processing settings, and legal obligations.
AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, or unexpected. You should review AI-generated content before relying on it or sharing it.
Path does not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for third-party advertising.
We share information with service providers that help operate Path. These include Supabase for authentication, database, storage, server hosting, and Edge Functions; OpenAI for AI processing, transcription, embeddings, and image generation; and email, support, server logging, or debugging providers we use to run and support the service.
Service providers are allowed to use information to provide services to Path and as permitted by their contracts and applicable law.
Apple or Google may process information when you choose to sign in with those providers.
Friend invite links can create a friendship between accounts. A connected friend may see your first name and the numeric compatibility score Path has computed for that friendship. Path does not show friends your journal entries, chat messages, onboarding answers, or the generated text behind a score.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect Path or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
You can choose what to write, what onboarding answers to provide, whether to use voice input, and whether to share a friend invite link.
You can revoke microphone permission in your device settings. You can sign out or delete your account from the app.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, deletion, correction, portability, objection, restriction, opt-out of certain processing, or limits on certain uses of sensitive personal information or consumer health data. You can contact us to make a request.
We may need to verify your identity before completing a privacy request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights, but some features may not work if we no longer have information needed to provide them.
To make a request, email alvin@pathjournal.app from the address on your Path account. We aim to respond within 45 days and will tell you if we need more time.
If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our response or emailing alvin@pathjournal.app with the word Appeal in the subject line. We will review the appeal and explain our decision in writing.
We keep account and journal information while your account is active or as needed to provide Path.
You can delete your account from Account Details. Account deletion is intended to permanently delete your account and associated user-owned app data, including stored generated journal cover images.
Deletion may not immediately remove information from encrypted backups, server logs, provider systems, or records that have already been processed by service providers. Some limited records may be retained if required for security, legal compliance, backup integrity, fraud prevention, provider obligations, or dispute resolution.
Path uses authentication, row-level database access controls, secure local token storage, HTTPS outside local development, private storage for generated journal covers, and server-side API keys to protect your information.
We limit access to personal information to people and service providers who need it to operate, secure, support, or improve Path.
No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so you should avoid entering information you would not want processed by Path or its service providers.
Path is intended for people 16 and older. Path is not directed to children, and you may not use Path if you are under 16.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 provided personal information to Path, contact us so we can review and delete it.
Path and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Privacy laws in those places may differ from the laws where you live.
